Things To Know About Appliances
  • You may be eligible for a tax credit by purchasing an energy-efficient appliance.
  • If your washer is over 10 years old, simply replacing it with a new, ENERGY STAR® qualified high efficiency washing machine could save you $135 each year on utility.
  • Switching to a high efficiency washing machine saves you both time and money. High efficiency machines often have a higher capacity than regular machines and can save you 10,000 gallons of water per year!
  • While ENERGY STAR® qualified clothes dryers are not currently available, look for one with a moisture sensor that automatically shuts off the machine when your clothes are dry when purchasing a new clothes dryer. Not only will this save energy, it will save the wear and tear on your clothes caused by over-drying.
  • Try adding air purifiers, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers placed strategically around your home or business. These will not only help you keep the air you breathe day in and day out optimally healthy and comfortable, they can lower energy bills by allowing you to use your central system less.
  • Refrigerators are the bad guys when it comes to energy consumption. If you still have a fridge from the 1980s, replace it with an ENERGY STAR® qualified model and save over $100 each year on your utility bills.
  • ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators are required to use 20% less energy than non-qualified models. Choose a new ENERGY STAR® model and cut your energy bills by at least $165 over the lifetime of your fridge.
  • If you have a dishwasher made before 1994, you may be paying an extra $40 a year on your utility bills and using an additional 10 gallons of water per cycle compared to owning a new ENERGY STAR® qualified model.
